Sugarcult, Story Of The Year and Jackson

November 15, 2003 @ The Infinity Buffalo, NY

I have been in love with Sugarcult since I learned about them back in the summer of 2001. So making the four-hour drive out to Buffalo was a small price to pay to see them again.

Aside from feeling extremely elderly at this show with the crowd consisting mainly of 14-16 year olds, I had a great time.

The opening bands Jackson and Story of the Year were really impressive.  Especially Story of the Year.  I was impressed with their intense energy and the fact that everyone in the audience knew every word to every song.  It made me feel like an ass because I had never seen them before (except for in the mall before the show but then I had no clue who they were either).  But now I am glad that I do know about them.  They are awesome performers along with being excellent musicians.  They spent more time in the air and on their backs rolling from one side of the stage to the other than they did on the ground.

Even discovering a new band couldn’t take away from my excitement for seeing Sugarcult again.  This band has always been a great live band regardless if they are the headliners or opener.

Their set contained majority songs from Start Static.  They mixed in a few new songs from their upcoming album “Palm Trees And Power Lines" that is due out sometime in March.  Also included in the set was the acoustic “Memory,” which can also be found on the Punk Goes Acoustic Album.

The guys had a lot of energy and interacted with the crowd more than I have ever seen before at a Sugarcult show.  Tim talked more with the crowd asking them questions, taking photographs with their cameras and even inviting a few on stage toward the end to help him sing.  Even with the distractions of an occasional underage girl groping Tim whenever he approached the edge of the stage, he still took it in stride and went on with interacting with the rest of the audience.

This show was awesome and well worth the trip to Buffalo.  If Sugarcult is coming anywhere near your hometown or state go!  You won’t be disappointed!

I had to fight for the shots I got of the band so I hope you enjoy!!
