September 12, 2002 Turning Stone Casino Verona, NY
by Rebecca Clark
A
showroom full of invigorating fans filled the air on September 12, 2002 when
Shaggy performed at the Turning Stone Casino. Among the young woman in the
audience there was also a mixture of fans of all ages. Loud screams echoed in
the showroom as the lights went out and Mr. Lover Lover himself hit the stage.
Shaggy’s unique bass voice, coming together in reggae music that has a
hint of R&B. It is a good mixture and will get the listener up off their
feet and dancing within minutes, as the audience surly did enjoying every note
coming from Shaggy and his supporting singers.
Shaggy’s set was comprised mostly of songs off of his latest record
“Hot Shot” and “Mr Lover Lover, the Best Of Shaggy” including
“Angel,” “It Wasn’t Me,” “Luv Me, Luv Me,” “Freaky Girl,” and
“That Girl.” During the last part of “Angel” one lucky lady was hand
picked from the audience and was serenaded by Shaggy and his singers. Shaggy
also performed songs off his forthcoming album, giving the crowd a sneak peak of
what is yet to come. When he sang his new single “Strength of a Woman” the
ladies in the audience went crazy, as the song portrayed men being nothing
without the “Strength of a Woman.” Shaggy teased the audience jokingly
telling all the women that they better beware, because his next album is sexy
enough to get them pregnant. Shaggy personalized the performance by actually
interacting with his fans, by pausing from his music to ask the audience
questions. Shaggy also told the audience that people accuse him of catering to
the ladies though his music and his response was “ya damn right.”
Closing his set with “Sexy Lady,” Shaggy instructed all the ladies in
the audience that feel sexy to get up on the stage and show it. Immediately
woman flocked to the stage, to the point of where the security guards said no
more! Taking a request from a young lady from the front row, he sang “Chica
Bonita.” As he sang the song he paused started laughing and flashed a sexy
smile and admits that they never played “Chica Bonita” live before.
Officially ending the hour and a half long set by performing “Luv me , Luv
me.”
The anticipation was as the ticket price, but Shaggy delivered a very
enjoyable show leaving the fans satisfied. Allowing flash photography, the fans
will have memories to keep with them and cherish from their exciting and sexy
night with the one and only Mr. Lover Lover. Be sure to pick up his new album
due out in stores for all the “lucky ladies” on October 29, 2002.
