Godsmack

December 9, 2004 @ The Landmark Theater in Syracuse, NY

Godsmack returned to the Landmark Theater in Syracuse, NY on the night of December 9th.  Only this time they were to perform an acoustic set.

When I walked through the doors of the Landmark and saw the stage, I knew that this show was going to be an extremely different experience than one of your typical intense, in your face Godsmack shows.   It felt like I was entering one of the band member’s houses or a studio for a private show.  There was no barricade, a few stools, and a couch a television with numerous candles lit all over the stage.

The lights went down and a man from the crew came out and told the audience that the band wanted them to sit back and enjoy the show.  He pointed out the set and fact that there was no barricade so no moshing or crowd surfing was going to be necessary for this particular Godsmack show.  With that said the lights remained dimmed until the music started.

One by one each band member joined one another on stage.  A special guest Lee Richards from the band Dropbox took a seat on the couch and the show began.  Before singing Erna dedicated the show in the memory of his fallen friend Dimebag Darrell.

They had an overall crowd pleasing set and performed various songs from each of their albums including The Other Side.

Toward the end of the show Erna brought out John Kosco, the front man from the band Dropbox to help him out with the song “Touché.”  But before they sang that song Richards took a seat on one of the stools in front and joined Kosco for an acoustic version of Dropbox’s “Nobody Cares.”

It seemed as soon as the show had begun it ended.  Before parting ways with Syracuse Godsmack came back out with the two members of Dropbox to do an encore with the Aerosmith song “Reefer Headed Woman.”  The band made the song their own and Kosco gave Erna a run for his money with the vocals on the song.  Overall it was a version that worked and a great way to end an incredible show.

For anyone who decided to skip this show for fear it might be a repeat of the same show that they performed in April or for fear an acoustic show wouldn’t measure up to any other show, should know that they made a big mistake and missed out on an incredible experience.  This Godsmack show was completely different from any I have experienced but one of the best shows I have been to.
