So where are you right now?  Are you in California?

Yeah I am actually on the beach right now.

Ohh that’s cool I am in the snow right now!

Yeah I grew up in the snow.

Its fun when you don’t have to drive in it

So….How is your album coming along do you know when it is coming out?

I don’t know the exact date but we are gonna try and get it out ya know maybe just before the summer.  Right now we are working on the songs we got almost all the songs done we are gonna record them in early January.  And also during that process we are gonna try to film us in the studio for our website.  We are gonna have the website updated it doesn’t get updated that often right now.  But we are gonna get so we are taking more control over it then we are gonna put more stuff on it and get it updated daily with new stuff from the studio and stuff like that

Are you going to have like little samples of your music so people can listen to it

Yeah we might do samples of music.  We have talked about that.  We just want people to be a part of it.  See what its like to record a record in the studio.  See how hard it can be, how fun it can be and shit like that.

That’s awesome.

Do you know exactly what the first single is going to sound like or anything like that

You know I don’t know we have so many songs right now.  And this record in all sounds like us you know what I mean.  But it is us evolving as a band.  When we first together and wrote our first record we had known each other for a long time and I had played with dave for a long time mark had played with mike for a long time and we had known Chris forever.  So as a band we were only together for maybe two or three months when we started writing out first record.  You know.  After being together for a year and a half and being on the road for all those months….16 months We are evolving into what is our sound. And hopefully it is something that makes us stand out and breaks us away from what everyone else is doing you know what I mean.

Yeah what do you think sets you apart from everybody else

I think that we definitely just want to be known as a rock band.  I don’t think we are trying to re-invent the wheel too much.  But there are things that we do, certain styles that we bring together.  I think we all grew up liking the same music but a lot of us musically have different styles in what we like to play and we bring that all together I think it sticks in our band and it makes our band sound different than everybody else.  I think we have a different kind of versatility than some other bands you know what I mean.  I think that like I said the combination of the five of us, we all write you know too, which is weird.  A lot of the times there is a principle writer in a band or two guys that collaborate.  We all collaborate so who knows what’s going to happen.  And our philosophy is too that we don’t hinder ourselves or not try something new because we don’t try to fit into any genre either. We don’t try to take out  something that may not sound like what we do you know we go with what comes out of us.

What has been the biggest inspiration in writing for the new album?

I would have to say probably just how the world has changed in the last year.  Also you know being on the road for a year and a half and seeing everything.  Its not just songs about us being on the road or anything it’s a life issues a life changes you know.  You see a lot of things and you evolve as a person like all people do over time.  So you know there is a lot of inspiration there.  Just kind of like what our lives have been over the last two years and I am sure we have all drawn from that and are all inspired by that.

What can your fans expect from the new album compared from the first album?  Like is it going to be the same, heavier, more melodic or….?

I would say there’s things that are heavier definitely from the first record.  You know like I said its not a total departure from who we are but at the same token we are just trying to come up with something that was ours you know make it ours.  I am not saying the first record wasn’t ours.  I am saying just that its something that makes us stand out even more.  That you know we put our hearts into it and realized the opportunities that we have.  You know a lot of people do not get a chance to express themselves to a lot of people in this magnitude.  Just taking it for that and taking it seriously like that.  I think that is probably the difference.  This time around it’s not like we get deadlines and its rushed and all that.  This time around we have had time to write songs on the road we have had time to write songs in the last couple of months and stuff.  Its just us evolved as a band you know.  But its still us, that’s that is the difference in what we are doing now.

Do you have complete control over what goes on the album?

Ohh definitely yeah.  Our record label is definitely cool about that.  They look at it like we know what we are doing, we got ourselves here and obviously they have helped us a lot and supported us.  That is why we picked them they are such an artist orientated label.  That we knew they would give us the control and they have never told us ever to change a part or add a part.  We just give it to them and they say “cool.”

Do you feel any pressure to match or beat the success of your last album?

I don’t know if its pressure I think that we have worked harder last year on touring and going to all these places four and five times in the last year and seeing the peoples reaction.  I do not think its pressure I think that we believe in ourselves and I think that we got done touring and we had to go in and be serious about this record.  It wasn’t really pressure it’s a different thing.  Its fun to be on the road but then its fun to be in the studio and writing songs that’s our life.  So I think its not pressure when you wanna do that and get to that for a living.  Its just all about going in you know and being inspired and creating things.

For the EP did you guys get to choose all the live songs on it?

Ohh yeah we chose every song on there.  It was our idea for the EP and everything.  We just wanted to throw something out there for people who havn’t seen us live to hear us live.  We also had a couple of new songs we were messing around with and we had a tribute song on there so we decided lets just throw it on an EP why try to hold it over for a second record.  Lets throw something out there for the people who are die hard fans you know if they want it they can get it.  We didn’t promote it or anything really at all.  We just thought that people who were into our band will find it.

How was playing Ozzfest compared to playing the smaller club shows?  What did you like better?

They are both cool because when you play the small clubs and especially when you are headlining, you know that the people are there to see you.  You know what I mean.  Its exciting because you know everyone is waiting for you and everybody goes off and its a great time.  Plus at the smaller shows you are not pressed for time either, you know what I mean.  You know how there are time limits (at the bigger shows).  You have fun and can do whatever you want and hang out with people, thats what’s cool.  Then the big places are cool cuz there are so many people and it is like you are playing with Ozzy.  And you know its someone you have dreamed of your whole life.  So to be in front of that many people that’s just fun too. Their both cool.  There is no one that is better.

Some bands think there is more pressure playing in front of a smaller audience because it has a more intimate feel to it.

Yeah I think its harder the less people you play in front of but I think the way we play we always go out and have a good time every time.  I don’t think there is ever pressure when we play because like I said thats what we have always wanted to do.  I know that is what I have always wanted to do you know.  So its more like a fun thing.  We just want to have a good time you know so its cool either way.  One thing that is hard for me though is that I can’t really play in front of one or two people.  If its Just me playing guitar you know it just drives me nuts. But 60 thousand I am cool but two it sucks. <laughing>

I know I couldn’t do it either if I were you!

How do you go about choosing your set list are there songs that you just have to play or….?

Usually there are certain spots in the show that we want to play songs but normally you know we will sometimes save something like “Giving In” for the end or something like that.  Or you know do something like that we usually play drowning at the end.  Other than that Marky does the set list.  They make a set list but thats just has all the songs on it you know just in case you forget your songs or something like that.  Then you can look down and be like ohh yeah lets play that one.  So that is what he usually does.  Or even right before the show he’ll say, “hey! lets do this, this and this” and one of us will say well lets play that.  We all kind of make it up as we go along before the show.  Its never really set in stone.

Do you like playing the bigger or smaller markets better?

Well I like playing in them all.  It doesn’t really matter. You know.  I like the mid-west probably a lot because that is where I am from.  I am the only one in the band that is from the mid-west.  So its kinda cool to bein areas where I grew up you know.  So that is cool for me because I have a lot of family there and stuff.  You know as far as big markets or smaller it doesn’t really matter.  Its always fun everytime anywhere.

Do you have any plans for touring yet?

Right now we don’t know because its so early.  We will do the record.  We will definitely be on tour for a long time.  Just like the first time you know what I mean.  We have only been to Europe like twice last year so we kind of want to go there more times.  We are gonna go….<sounds of a helicopter flying by> there is a helicopter over there.  It is definitely L.A.  They fly over the beach all day.

Really?

Ohh yeah

Are they looking for anything illegal?

Yeah some of them are cops some of them are like news crews.  But anyway…what were we talking about there

Ahhhh the tour

Ohh the tour yeah.  Like I said we definitely going to do a lot of the US and we want to go to Japan and Austrailia and stuff like that.  We definitely want to do a big headlining thing in the United States.  Probably we might do something right before the record comes out.  But we are definitely going to be on tour after that.  But we might do something before it comes out too.  So I do not know yet.

Are there any bands out there right now that you feel deserve more recognition than they already have?

I don’t know there is a couple bands in L.A. that are coming up.  There is a band called Straight A that is coming up out from L.A. that is pretty dope.  We rehearse down the hall from them.  We have known those guys for a couple years now.  Those guys are coming up and that will be cool.  There are all kinds of bands you know but I look for them.  There is one how about that?

Any advice for bands that are trying to make it?

I would have to say first of all if you are just starting out you know its going to be hard and there is gonna  be a lot of downfalls.  I guess you have to be honest with yourself that’s the advice I would give.  You know when you make your songs and record your songs and for the first time when you listen to them back and at that time they sound awesome but you got to tell yourself does that sound like somebody else or am I really doing something new and you know.  Be honest with yourself and keep pushing yourself and you will get to point where you want to get to.  It may take a few years but if you really want to do it, it can happen.

I heard you were getting married….do you mind me asking if its true?

Ohh that’s true yeah

Did it happen yet?

No its going to be in March

Contgrats! I heard about it but never heard any details or anything!

Yeah well she is hott and she is a college professer and ahh there you have it! <laughs>

Hey I am glad you are happy! <I am then stuttering a little because I do not know what else to say>

Yeah exactly.  Well is that all you got for me!

Yup that is all I got!

Alright I want to thank everybody who supports our band and everybody who comes to our shows and everybody who buys our records and keeps us going and we appreciate every one of those people!  I know that’s pretty cliché but there is never enough chances to do that!

No that’s not cliché all all!

I really appreciate it!

Well thank you so much! Goodbye!

Bye!
