Bayside "Sirens and Condolences"

by Renee Clark

I have had this album for about a month but have not had the chance to pop it in my CD player.  After seeing a commercial for the album’s upcoming release on Fuse or MTV 2 (I can’t remember which) I was inspired to get off my ass and give it a listen because I unlike everyone else have the opportunity to hear it before it is released.

I am glad I did because I really do like this album.  I was unsure at first of what to expect because the first track started off with a heavy Metallica like intro.  But after the song started going Bayside’s true punk sound came through.

This band may have the punk sound but it is a punk sound that they have sculpted into their own.  Bayside have a very distinct and compelling guitar composition that gives them an edge over other up and coming punk bands.  One at first listen does not really catch exactly how dark and gloomy the lyrics really are.  But each song has a deeper meaning than the “punky” exterior offers.  With Sirens and Condolences devastation and betrayal have never sounded so good.

This album is out in stores on January 27th and I highly recommend it to anyone who likes punk, emo or ROCK to go get it and give it a listen!

Bayside is going out tour once again starting on January 21st for their CD release party at The Downtown in Farmingdale, NY with special guest The Goodwill and The Sleeping.
